HR Analytics, our newest function within Human Resources, is about harvesting the vast amount of data that is produced in HR to make better decisions. But there are tactical and strategic measurements and it’s important to discern which you are trying to measure and why. Rather than lumping all reporting and analysis into “HR Analytics”, we HR professionals need to understand what is tactical and what is strategic. Because strategic metrics translate value to the executive suite and provide validation of HR’s influence and value, but tactical metrics can be perceived as operational and therefore just part of doing your job.
